Herod Agrippa (10 BCE – 44 CE) was a Roman client king of Judea. He was born into the Herodian dynasty, which ruled Judea under Roman oversight. He was the grandson of Herod the Great, the king of Judea who was famous for his massacre of the infants in Bethlehem during the time of Jesus' birth. Herod Agrippa was known for his lavish lifestyle and was a friend of the Roman emperor, Caligula. He was responsible for the execution of James, the brother of Jesus, and the imprisonment of the apostle Peter. He died suddenly and mysteriously in 44 CE, possibly from eating tainted food, during a visit to Caesarea.
